Converse shoes have a reputation, but it’s not one you associate with politicians. When you think of Converse, you think of basketball players from the ‘70s, punk rock band of the ‘90s, or one out of every eight people in Brooklyn in 2020. Converse sneakers have always been cool, but now they’re political. At least since Kamala Harris revealed she owns an entire collection of classic Chucks. 

It all started when she hit the campaign trail in Milwaukee wearing a simple pair of black, low-rise Chuck Taylor All-Stars. A video of Harris wearing the classic shoe quickly garnered over 8 million views, which makes it about as viral as a good Oscars acceptance speech. Except Kamala didn’t have to accept an award, wear a gown, or be a rambling Joaquin Phoenix to get millions of people’s attention. All she had to do was walk in the most comfortable, classic, cool pair of sneakers arguably to ever exist.
