Quarterback Cam Newton made a memorable first impression in his debut with the New England Patriots.
After arriving at Gillette Stadium in a bright canary yellow suit, the 2015 NFL MVP took the field for pregame warmups in specially designed cleats with anti-racism messages on the sides
On the outside of his right foot was the phrase “7 SHOTS” along with seven circles – representing the number of times 29-year-old Jacob Blake was shot in the back by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on August 23.
Other messages included: “IT ENDS NOW!!” “SAY THEIR NAMES!” and “NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE.”

The Patriots made the decision as a team not to engage in any form of protest before their opener. However, Newton made a statement of his own with his feet before the game – and during the game with a pair of touchdown runs.
